Hollywood Homicide

Watched “Hollywood Homicide” on DVD. It was written “Hot Action Comedy” on the cover. Well, in reality it was neither of three. It was a rather boring slow movie which seemed more like a tribute to Harrison Ford‘s Indiana Jones days. All escense of the movie is wonderfully collected in the trailer that I’ve seen in the movies. All action, story, and jokes are there.

It was much more boring in the movie itself. 5 or so jokes for 2 hours of no action is boring. There is one long chase closer to the end of the film, but it becomes very long over nothing which makes it boring too. Watch this film only if you have 2 hours that you are prepared to throw out of your life. ;)

Googlism

There was yet another story about Google on Slashdot today. Deep down in the comments, there was an interesting URL to GoogleFight.com. GoogleFight.com is a site that handles search match count battles for different terms. For example, “linux” vs “windows”. Which one do you think returns more search results? Check it out. They also have a hall of fame with a number of “wars”. And there is a battle of the month. If that is not enough, anyone can enter a couple of words in the search form and see what happens.

Meanwhile, my Google Ads are doing just fine. My balance with Google suggests that they will be sending me a check this year. (Yes, year so far). :)

L’Auberge espagnole

Just watches “L’Auberge espagnole” (aka “The Spanish Apartment”). Excellent movie. There is something about European movies that I like, but I am not sure I can define what it is. They are way more original, maybe. In the sense that there is always something different about the film. Camera work, music, scenery, situation. I don’t know. But there is something that makes me want to watch it. There is also style. Always. And humour.

I think I haven’t seen one single European movie without humour in it. “The Spanish Apartment” was a dramatic comedy, so there was a whole bunch of humour. But drama was excellent too. There were some bits that I feel strongly about but until now I wasn’t sure that it was possible to easily show them in the movie. For example, when few people (students in this case) rent the same apartment together, and they are not really friends, but they are so close that when trouble comes to one of them, all of them forget whatever they were doing and literally run to help the person in need. This movie shows few things like perfectly, but without too much hussle. Bravo.

Master and Commander

Watched “Master and Commander” on DVD. It’s a very good movie, but it’s a pity that I missed it in the movies. Big screen and darkness were defenetly planned for the audience.

It’s strange that there are so few movies about naval battles, pirates, and all that stuff. When I was a kid, I’ve read a whole bunch of books about pirates, ships, seas, captains, etc, that it makes me kind of fallable for movies like this. There are not that many and that kind of pisses me off. In a good sense.
