Minor downtime

There was a minor downtime today due to upgrades of my CPE. Up until now CPE was getting stuck if it was under load for half an hour or so. Today the motherboard in it was replaced with the new one and all software has been upgraded to newer versions. I will test the results for the next few days, so you might find the site a bit slow (read: under load). Hopefully, all of these will work good though.

A couple of new categories and less pictures

I have introduced two new categories:

  • Blogging – this will hold all posts about blogging, blog software, RSS, RDF, Atom, syndication, aggregators, etc.
  • Humor – this will be feeled with all the jokes and links to funny pictures that I put in random categories until now.

I will also be posting less pictures in the “Picture of the day” project. Winter is coming to Cyprus and that means that we will have a lot of rains and other wet nuances. Water and photography equipment don’t mix too well. That kind of limits what I can do outside. Inside is very well photographed by me already and is not so interesting anyway. In any case, I will try to get pictures as soon as possible. It’s just will be slightly less than daily.

Full item and comments feed

Some of you have asked for a way to see if there were any comments to items you’ve commented on. Apparently, there is a NP_RSSItem plugin for NucleusCMS that allows for automatic creation of feeds for full items and all comments. I have installed and configured. There is a new link marked “Item feed” at the bottom of every post. Give this link to your RSS aggrigator and it will notify you in case I will update the item or if any comments will be posted for this item.

Also, if you prefer to get full posts in your RSS feed instead those shorter versions I am providing now, than you can subscribe to this feed (hello Rinat).

I have checked the functionality with BlogLines and seem to work fine. Let me know if you find any problem with this.

Links to other blogs migrated to BlogLines

I have got rid of hand written links to other sites on the right panel. Instead, I will be using the blogroll interface provided by BlogLines.com. It is way more convinient for me and gives up-to-date links for you. The sad part is that I had to lose a couple of links since they don’t provide any feeds that can be subscribed to, but everyone was warned and I hope also that this will change in the future. With current trends, every dynamic site will have some sort of feed with the nearest future.

Let me know, if you were on the list, aren’t anymore, but do provide a feed. I’ll add you up and that will boost your Google rating if nothing else. :)

I have also added a link that will help you to quickly subscribe to the feed from this blog over at BlogLines. Cheers.
