My mother’s New Year present to me was a DVD with Kim Ki-duk’s “Bom yeoreum gaeul gyeoul geurigo bom” (better known as “Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter… and Spring”). I didn’t have either time or the right mood to watch until today.

My rating: 7.0 [rate 7.0]
My feelings about this film are somewhat mixed.
On one hand, I am very positive about this film. It has some really beautiful moments – the scenery is perfect and some nature shots are fantastic. It also unfolds a really good drama and nicely shows different stages of human life.
On the other hand, the film didn’t “teach” me anything. All the thoughts and ideas were somewhat familiar and rather simplistic.
While I enjoyed watching the film, I haven’t found anything to think about much. Neither I will watch again – there’s just no point.
I liked Kim Ki-duk’s next film – “Samaria” – much more. Although it wasn’t as beautifully shot, it touched me on so many more levels. If you’d have a choice, I recommend watching “Samaria” rather than this film. But if you have the time and will to watch both – please do. They are both very talanted films.
