And it was worth waiting for. I really enjoyed it. There were a couple of sloppy moments, but overall it is an excellent comedy with lots of dynamic action packed into it. It is one of those films that feels like a good thing. You can feel that people who were making it were having lots of fun. They all were trying to make it better. And that’s why all about it is great – story, acting, jokes, sports, camera work, photography, soundtrack…

I was also surprised by a couple of bits I found out about this film on IMDB. Here are my findings.

Firstly, the director’s name looked familiar, but I couldn’t recall where I heard it before. Peter Segal doesn’t have many films under his belt, but among those few are some famous comedies – “50 First Dates“, “Anger Management“, “Nutty Professor II: The Klumps“, and “Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult“. That’s an impressive profile if you ask me.

Secondly, the film itself strongly reminded me “Mean Machine” (2001). Apparently, both films are based on the same screenplay , which dates back to 1974 and the film “The Longest Yard“. The author of the original screenplay is Tracy Keenan Wynn, who appears in the credits of all three films.

By the way, I haven’t seen the original movie and I liked “Mean Machine” a lot, but this year’s “The Longest Yard” is way better. It is much funnier, has greater dynamics, more special effects and is much more visually pleasing.

Anyway, I the film provides excellent entertainment and I do recommend to anyone seeking such.
