I (and not only I &#8211; thanks Alex) felt like it was time to revisit my <a href=\"\/wordpress\/2005\/01\/07\/on-smartphones-in-general-and-motorolla-a780-in-particular\/\">mobile phone feature wishlist<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>So, let&#8217;s see what&#8217;s going on with this upcoming Sony Ericsson P990:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>FM Radio &#8211; Check!<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Recoding and playback of voice calls.<\/strong> &#8211; No check.  Still waiting.  Maybe some software will sort it out though.<\/li>\n<li><strong>CompactFlash memory.<\/strong> &#8211; Half check.  P990&#8217;s memory will be extendable up to 2 GBytes.  I can work with this size, but since it&#8217;s Sony memory, I will probably have to pay a lot of money to get it.  And I might get troubles later on down the road, when either needing more memory or trying to use the memory card with another device.  It&#8217;s good to know though that 2 GBytes is a realistic option.<\/li>\n<li><strong>High level of integration in PIM &#8211; Check.<\/strong> There are several software packages on the market that provide all functionality that I need.  None of them comes with the phone, but that&#8217;s a minor issue.<\/li>\n<li><strong>GPS<\/strong> &#8211; No check.  Neither there seems to be a GPS in this new phone, nor there is any sort of expansion slot that I could use to insert a GPS receiver.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Resume: while the progress is obvious &#8211; two and a half checks out of five that I care about &#8211; there is still a lot to be done.<\/p>\n<!-- google_ad_section_end -->\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<!-- google_ad_section_start -->\n<p>This recent Slashdot post links to this pre-review of new Sony Ericsson P990 due to be release in the first quarter of 2006.
