{"id":43485,"date":"2019-09-02T18:28:29","date_gmt":"2019-09-02T16:28:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mamchenkov.net\/wordpress\/?p=43485"},"modified":"2019-09-02T18:28:34","modified_gmt":"2019-09-02T16:28:34","slug":"perl-6-re-branding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mamchenkov.net\/wordpress\/2019\/09\/02\/perl-6-re-branding\/","title":{"rendered":"Perl 6 re-branding"},"content":{"rendered":"<!-- google_ad_section_start -->\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.perl.org\/users\/ovid\/\">Curtis &#8220;Ovid&#8221; Poe<\/a>, the author of the book &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Beginning-Perl-Curtis-Poe\/dp\/1118013840\/\">Beginning Perl<\/a>&#8221; and long-time <a href=\"https:\/\/www.perlmonks.org\/?node=ovid\">Perl Monk<\/a>, has <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.perl.org\/users\/ovid\/2019\/08\/is-perl-6-being-renamed.html\">this excellent post<\/a> on the re-branding discussion of Perl 6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even though I&#8217;m not writing much Perl code these days, I have to admit that the whole Perl 6 thing has been going for years now and I&#8217;m one of those many people who were confused by it.  In my opinion, Perl 6 is not a continuation of Perl 5 as a version bump (like in Python or PHP), but it is a different language.  And as a different language, it should have a different name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Of the ones mentioned in the blog post, I like the &#8220;Raku&#8221; the best.  But given the negative connotation in some countries, cultures, and languages, &#8220;Camelia&#8221; seems like a better option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Regardless of the alternative names, I want the change from &#8220;Perl 6&#8221; to anything else the sooner, the better.<\/p>\n<!-- google_ad_section_end -->\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<!-- google_ad_section_start -->\n<p>Curtis &#8220;Ovid&#8221; Poe, the author of the book &#8220;Beginning Perl&#8221; and long-time Perl Monk, has this excellent post on the re-branding discussion of Perl 6.
