At the moment, we use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/\">Google<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bing.com\/\">Bing<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/yandex.com\/\">Yandex<\/a> for this measurement. In order to count only relevant results, we are searching for &lt;system name&gt; together with the term database, e.g. &#8220;Oracle&#8221; and &#8220;database&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li><b>General interest in the system.<\/b> For this measurement, we use the frequency of searches in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/trends\/\">Google Trends<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><b>Frequency of technical discussions about the system.<\/b> We use the number of related questions and the number of interested users on the well-known IT-related Q&amp;A sites <a href=\"http:\/\/stackoverflow.com\/\">Stack Overflow<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/dba.stackexchange.com\/\">DBA Stack Exchange<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><b>Number of job offers, in which the system is mentioned.<\/b> We use the number of offers on the leading job search engines <a href=\"http:\/\/www.indeed.com\/\">Indeed<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simplyhired.com\/\">Simply Hired<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><b>Number of profiles in professional networks, in which the system is mentioned.<\/b> We use the internationally most popular professional networks <a href=\"http:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/\">LinkedIn<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.upwork.com\/\">Upwork<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><b>Relevance in social networks.<\/b> We count the number of <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/\">Twitter<\/a> tweets, in which the system is mentioned.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>It seems objective and representative enough to me.<\/p>\n<!-- google_ad_section_end -->\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<!-- google_ad_section_start -->\n<p>DB-Engines.com provides some insight into some of the most popular database engines (312 of them to be precise). \u00a0Nothing too surprising there &#8211; Oracle and MySQL leading the charts, but it&#8217;s nice to have the numbers and trends.
