WordPress<\/a> has been known, among other things, for coining the phrase<\/a> “code is poetry”. \u00a0It’s used in the footer of their website as well as quite a bit around the web. \u00a0This goes along with Donald Knuth paradigm of Literate Programming<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Turns out, some people disagree. \u00a0Most recently,\u00a0Peter Seibel, the author of “Coders at Work” book of interviews, wrote this blog<\/a> post titled “Code is not literature”.<\/p>\n

It was sometime after that presentation that I finally realized the obvious: code is not literature. We don\u2019t read code, we decode<\/em>it. We examine it. A piece of code is not literature; it is a specimen.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
