{"id":22267,"date":"2014-07-26T11:55:42","date_gmt":"2014-07-26T09:55:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mamchenkov.net\/wordpress\/?p=22267"},"modified":"2014-07-26T11:55:42","modified_gmt":"2014-07-26T09:55:42","slug":"upgrading-fedora-14-to-fedora-20-is-always-fun","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mamchenkov.net\/wordpress\/2014\/07\/26\/upgrading-fedora-14-to-fedora-20-is-always-fun\/","title":{"rendered":"Upgrading Fedora 14 to Fedora 20 is always fun!"},"content":{"rendered":"<!-- google_ad_section_start -->\n<p>I&#8217;m upgrading my wife&#8217;s laptop from Fedora 14 to Fedora 20. \u00a0That&#8217;s plenty of fun! \u00a0I&#8217;ve done this before with other machines, but memory isn&#8217;t my strongest suit. \u00a0First, <strong><em>preupgrade<\/em><\/strong> fails complaining that there are no repositories anymore. \u00a0That&#8217;s to be expected, with even Fedora 18 being passed end of life. \u00a0The replacement for <em>preupgrade<\/em> &#8211; <strong><em>fedup<\/em><\/strong> &#8211; isn&#8217;t yet available for the releases that old. \u00a0Digging around I found a DVD with Fedora 19, which would work just fine, if only upgrade option hasn&#8217;t been removed from the recent Fedora releases.<\/p>\n<p>So the only option that I see, except for a complete fresh install, is to follow the <a href=\"https:\/\/fedoraproject.org\/wiki\/Upgrading_from_EOL_Fedora_using_yum\">yum upgrade<\/a> path. \u00a0Which is a bumpy ride, but it did get me to the destination before. \u00a0So here we go &#8230;<\/p>\n<pre class=\"brush: bash; light: true; title: ; notranslate\" title=\"\">\r\n$ yum clean all\r\n$ rpm -Uvh http:\/\/...\/releases\/16\/...\/fedora-release*rpm\r\n$ yum upgrade\r\n$ yum update\r\n$ reboot\r\n<\/pre>\n<p>That&#8217;ll get me to Fedora 16. Try the preupgrade\/fedup option to go to Fedora 18. If not there, repeat the above. Then go to Fedora 20.
