The results blew us away: we saw many more entrants and novel applications of our data. GitHubbers ranked their favorite entries, and after tallying the votes, we&#8217;re happy to announce the top 3 entries for the 2013 GitHub data challenge.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The second place (<a href=\"http:\/\/sideeffect.kr\/popularconvention\">Popular Convention<\/a> by <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/outsideris\">Outsider<\/a>)\u00a0and third place (<a href=\"http:\/\/davidfischer.github.io\/gdc2\/\">open source contributions by location<\/a>\u00a0by <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/davidfischer\">David Fischer<\/a>)\u00a0winners are very nice. \u00a0But the first place winner is truly amazing (<a href=\"http:\/\/osrc.dfm.io\/\">The Open Source Report Card<\/a>, by <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/dfm\">Dan Foreman-Mackey<\/a>). \u00a0It&#8217;s an excellent combination of data crunching with beautiful presentation. \u00a0Of course, you&#8217;ll need some publicly visible repositories and contributions to see anything interesting, but once you do, it&#8217;s quite impressive. \u00a0Have a look at <a href=\"http:\/\/osrc.dfm.io\/mamchenkov\">mine<\/a>, for example.<\/p>\n<!-- google_ad_section_end -->\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<!-- google_ad_section_start -->\n<p>GitHub, being a massive data store, is constantly looking for new and improved ways of extracting knowledge from its data.
