{"id":13841,"date":"2011-01-05T10:48:04","date_gmt":"2011-01-05T08:48:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mamchenkov.net\/wordpress\/?p=13841"},"modified":"2011-01-05T10:48:04","modified_gmt":"2011-01-05T08:48:04","slug":"bob-the-fish","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mamchenkov.net\/wordpress\/2011\/01\/05\/bob-the-fish\/","title":{"rendered":"Bob, the fish"},"content":{"rendered":"<!-- google_ad_section_start -->\n<p>My son Maxim has been asking Santa for a gold fish. \u00a0Among a billion of other things, of course. \u00a0And while he wasn&#8217;t so sure about all those toys, he somehow was certain that Santa will bring him a gold fish this year. \u00a0For it was an almost done fact. \u00a0Something like tomorrows sunrise. \u00a0It&#8217;s not here yet, but you know for sure it&#8217;s coming.<\/p>\n<p>Neither me, nor my wife Olga know anything about fish. \u00a0Except that it lives in the water and you can eat it in a variety of ways. \u00a0But fish as a pet is weird. \u00a0 Still, we decided to go along with it. \u00a0So, for the New Year&#8217;s Santa did bring Maxim a small glass bowl for\u00a0aquarium\u00a0with a gold fish in it.<\/p>\n<p>Maxim was overjoyed. \u00a0I think part of it was due to him expecting the gold fish for Christmas, and not getting it, sort of, downed his hopes a bit. \u00a0And then he didn&#8217;t find the aquarium under the tree for the New Year&#8217;s. \u00a0Santa was afraid that our cat will either eat the fish or knock off the aquarium and spill all the water, so he left the present on the table. \u00a0And Maxim just didn&#8217;t check there. \u00a0Yeah, I know, modern age kids. \u00a0Back in our day we&#8217;d check everywhere! \u00a0But I\u00a0digress.<\/p>\n<p>As I said, Maxim was very excited to have a fish. \u00a0He wanted to do things with &#8211; watch it, feed it, put more water in the aquarium, move the aquarium around, put more stones on the bottom of the aquarium, feed the fish again, and watch it some more.<\/p>\n<p>By the end of the day, I noticed that the water in the aquarium wasn&#8217;t as crystal clear as before. \u00a0And the fish seemed to be swearing at us all. \u00a0At least it looked that way. \u00a0Now of course I think that the fish was trying to breath with its mouth. \u00a0Anyway. \u00a0Dirty water. \u00a0So I changed it &#8211; spilled half of it out and put some new water in. \u00a0The fish looked better. \u00a0But not for long. \u00a0The next day I felt like I need to change the water again. \u00a0And again. \u00a0And again.<\/p>\n<p>Then it hit me &#8211; the Internet! \u00a0I had to read at least something about the fish. \u00a0Since I didn&#8217;t know which brand, model, class, or type this fish was, I just read a bit about gold fishes. \u00a0And even that little that I read made me worried. \u00a0Here is a list of things (I don&#8217;t dare call them facts yet) that I read:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Aquarium gold fish don&#8217;t exists in natural habitat. \u00a0They were created by humans for humans. \u00a0And while some of them are beautiful, they are very fragile. \u00a0One small mistake and the fish is dead. \u00a0One big mistake and the whole aquarium is cursed.<\/li>\n<li>Aquarium fish is very sensitive to water. \u00a0Preparing and maintaining the right water is almost as hard as sending human to Mars. \u00a0Maybe not that expensive though. \u00a0Aquarium has to be prepared with water before the fish goes in. \u00a0Once the fish is in, it&#8217;ll take a couple of days for it to settle and adjust the water for itself. \u00a0And then that&#8217;s what you&#8217;ll need to maintain.<\/li>\n<li>Gold fish needs a lot of space. \u00a0Suggestions varied between a 10 liters and 20 liters of aquarium space per each fish. \u00a0Our fish bowl was under 2 liters.<\/li>\n<li>Gold fish are a common present for office competitions, birthdays, and other holidays. \u00a0But because most people don&#8217;t know how to take care of the fish, the fish usually <strong>survives only for 3-4 days<\/strong>. \u00a0Oops!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Well, at least we tried. \u00a0With water changing and everything. \u00a0But that didn&#8217;t help. \u00a0Today morning I woke up to a dead fish. \u00a0Bob-the-fish was its name. \u00a0And it survived in our custody from December 31st, 2010 to January 5th, 2011. \u00a0That&#8217;s almost a week.
