Google Apps help page<\/a> is a little bit outdated and I had to spend a few minutes working out the solution, hence this post. \u00a0Here is how you add your Google Apps GTalk account to Pidgin.<\/p>\n

  1. In Pidgin, click on the Accounts<\/strong> menu.<\/li>\n
  2. Select Manage Accounts<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  3. Click ‘Add…<\/strong>‘ button.<\/li>\n
  4. Select XMPP<\/strong> protocol.<\/li>\n
  5. Specify account’s local part in the Username<\/strong> field. \u00a0For joe@example.com<\/em> that would be joe<\/em>.<\/li>\n
  6. Specify account’s domain in the Domain<\/strong> field. \u00a0For joe@example.com<\/em> that would be examle.com<\/em>.<\/li>\n
  7. You can ignore the Resource<\/strong> field and leave it empty.<\/li>\n
  8. Specify account’s password in the Password<\/strong> field.<\/li>\n
  9. Switch to Advanced<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n
  10. Change Connection security<\/strong> to ‘Use old-style SSL’.<\/li>\n
  11. Change Connect port<\/strong> to 443.<\/li>\n
  12. Change Connect server<\/strong> to talk.google.com.<\/li>\n
  13. Press Save<\/strong>. \u00a0You are done.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
