{"id":11933,"date":"2009-11-18T09:03:33","date_gmt":"2009-11-18T07:03:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mamchenkov.net\/wordpress\/?p=11933"},"modified":"2009-11-18T09:03:33","modified_gmt":"2009-11-18T07:03:33","slug":"fedora-12","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mamchenkov.net\/wordpress\/2009\/11\/18\/fedora-12\/","title":{"rendered":"Fedora 12"},"content":{"rendered":"<!-- google_ad_section_start -->\n<p>I&#8217;ve upgraded my laptop to <a href=\"http:\/\/fedoraproject.org\/get-fedora\">Fedora 12<\/a>.\u00a0 I know, that wasn&#8217;t the smartest move, since the conference which I am attending is not over yet.\u00a0 But I just couldn&#8217;t wait.<\/p>\n<p>The upgrade process was as simple as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Open up the terminal, switch to root user, and run &#8220;<em>preupgrade<\/em>&#8220;.<\/li>\n<li>Select Fedora 12 from the list of available options and click <em>Next<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>Watch the downloads in progress.\u00a0 Or, as I did, go and have a few beers and socialize.<\/li>\n<li>When you are back from the beers, before you crash into bed, click the <em>Next<\/em> button for the installation to start.<\/li>\n<li>Go to sleep.<\/li>\n<li>Wake up to a shiny Fedora 12 distribution on your computer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The only thing that got me worried for a second was that after the laptop rebooted into Fedora 12, for some reason the resolution of the screen went down to 800&#215;600 or something like that.\u00a0 But all I had to do was login into Gnome, navigate to System \/ Administration \/ Display and switch resolution back to what it was before the upgrade.<\/p>\n<p>I didn&#8217;t have much time to explore things yet, just read through <a href=\"http:\/\/fedoraproject.org\/wiki\/Fedora_12_one_page_release_notes\">release notes<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/fedoraproject.org\/wiki\/Releases\/12\/FeatureList\">features list<\/a>.\u00a0 However things do look to be faster and more polished.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll have to use it for a few days to know for sure.<\/p>\n<!-- google_ad_section_end -->\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<!-- google_ad_section_start -->\n<p>I&#8217;ve upgraded my laptop to Fedora 12.\u00a0 I know, that wasn&#8217;t the smartest move, since the conference which I am attending is not over yet.\u00a0 But I just couldn&#8217;t wait.
