DVDs Are Starting To Die Too...\">this post at Techdirt<\/a> about a starting decline in DVD sales, I was thinking about quality and quantity&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>We get more and more music and movies released these days than ever.\u00c2\u00a0 But most of them suck.\u00c2\u00a0 Most of them suck so badly, that nobody cares about them.\u00c2\u00a0 If I&#8217;m bored and I have plenty of time on my hands, I&#8217;ll watch a movie.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;ll help me kill a couple of hours.\u00c2\u00a0 If that movie sucked or if it didn&#8217;t left anything for me to reflect on, I&#8217;ll grab the next film from the top of the pile and I&#8217;ll watch it.\u00c2\u00a0 And then the next.\u00c2\u00a0 And then the next.\u00c2\u00a0 A couple of years ago I had a period of time when I was watching 4-5 movies a day.\u00c2\u00a0 (I had a lot of time on my hands, and I had a friendly DVD rental right next to my apartment).<\/p>\n<p>If in my crusade to burn free time I stumbled upon a good movie, my behavior changed totally.\u00c2\u00a0 After watching a good movie, I&#8217;d need some time alone to &#8220;sink&#8221; it into my brain.\u00c2\u00a0 To think about it.\u00c2\u00a0 Then, I&#8217;d go on the web to read more about the movie and people involved.\u00c2\u00a0 That can range anywhere from actors biographies and filmographies (most <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\">IMDB<\/a> pages) to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moviemistakes.com\/\">movie mitakes<\/a> and trivia. I&#8217;d often feel the need to discuss the movie with other people, read other people&#8217;s reviews, blog about it, and, eventually watch the same movie a few more times.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;d have no problem buying a DVD (bonus materials anyone?).\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;d be more inclined towards investigating and watching films with the same actors, of the same director, producer, screenwriter, etc.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;ll even go to the movies.<\/p>\n<p>Something similar happens with music.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;d get an mp3 from the web.\u00c2\u00a0 If I didn&#8217;t like it particularly, I&#8217;d get another one.\u00c2\u00a0 If I liked it though, I&#8217;d get an album. If the album was any good, I&#8217;ll get the discography.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;ll try to get my hands on live performances.\u00c2\u00a0 Videos are very welcome too.\u00c2\u00a0 And posters.\u00c2\u00a0 And interviews.\u00c2\u00a0 And I&#8217;ll listen to the music several more times.\u00c2\u00a0 Then I&#8217;ll learn the lyrics.\u00c2\u00a0 Then I&#8217;ll listen some more.\u00c2\u00a0 If I get a chance to go to the concert, I won&#8217;t miss the opportunity.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;ll blog about it.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;ll talk about it with people I know&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Now, back to the quantity vs. quality.\u00c2\u00a0 Producing a good piece of entertainment, be that music, movie, or anything else, is hard.\u00c2\u00a0 Everybody knows that, and I&#8217;m not an exception.\u00c2\u00a0 It takes time, money, dedication, and talent.\u00c2\u00a0 Mass producing crap seems simpler.\u00c2\u00a0 However, when applied over huge numbers (think globalization), is it still so?\u00c2\u00a0 Is it really easier to keep up with the demand for entertainment by\u00c2\u00a0 producing, distributing, and advertising crap?\u00c2\u00a0 I don&#8217;t know for sure, but I have my doubts.\u00c2\u00a0 Why?<\/p>\n<p>Because of two points:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Anybody can produce crap.\u00c2\u00a0 Seriously, how hard can that be?\u00c2\u00a0 Even I can do it.\u00c2\u00a0 I know, because I did.
