{"id":10993,"date":"2007-12-27T14:32:58","date_gmt":"2007-12-27T11:32:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mamchenkov.net\/wordpress\/2007\/12\/27\/chess-bits\/"},"modified":"2018-12-27T16:43:18","modified_gmt":"2018-12-27T14:43:18","slug":"chess-bits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mamchenkov.net\/wordpress\/2007\/12\/27\/chess-bits\/","title":{"rendered":"Chess bits"},"content":{"rendered":"<!-- google_ad_section_start -->\n<p>I&#8217;ve been fascinated by chess for as long as I can remember.\u00a0 This is one of those games that brings it all together &#8211; intelligence, suspense, entertainment, magic&#8230;\u00a0 Unfortunately, I wasn&#8217;t ever any good at playing chess, or even understanding most strategies.\u00a0 But that didn&#8217;t stop me from enjoying a game now and then.<\/p>\n<p>I have recently came across two interesting bits about chess.\u00a0 One is <a title=\"history of chess pieces\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gapingvoid.com\/Moveable_Type\/archives\/000996.html\">this post<\/a> on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gapingvoid.com\/\">gaping void blog<\/a> with the history of chess pieces.\u00a0 It explains where from the names and looks came, as well as why the pieces move the way they move.\u00a0 Another one is this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.battle-chess.ru\/\">Battle Chess<\/a> web site (in Russian).\u00a0 Battle Chess is a variation of the chess game, which, as the site says &#8220;is a war, not a game&#8221;.\u00a0 What they do is let each chess player arrange his pieces on his part of the board any way he wants.\u00a0 The second player does the same.\u00a0 The trick is that they don&#8217;t see each others positioning before the game starts.\u00a0 And then they start.\u00a0 Sounds exciting.
