The Prince of Tides

The Prince of Tides (1991)You probably think that I am getting used to late night television watching. Well, I don’t. I still don’t like it as much as I used to. I just catch it turned on pretty often, and if there is a movie and I have nothing else to do – I can’t resist. Today it was “The Prince of Tides“.

Disclaimer: I don’t like Barbra Streisand. Neither as an actress, nor as a director. I have nothing against her. She’s just outside of my perfect world.

This film had Barbra both as director and as one of the leading roles. She was averagely good actor, but she failed miserably in directing this film.

I was losing track of the film several times. I was leaving the room completely and coming back to it with no interest what-so-ever. If I was watching it in the cinema, I would fall asleep about 10 minutes after it started.

This film runs for more than two hours, but all it has is a piece of intense and somewhat cruel drama that was packed and compressed into about three minutes of screen time. For those of you who saw it – the scene where Tom tells Dr.Susan what really happened.

Three minutes! That was all this film was about. And those three minutes were niether in the beginning of the movie, so that it would be very easy to switch it off afterwards, nor they were in the end of the film that would leave a much better impression. No. They were in the second part of the film, but followed by a whole lot of crap that erased all the positive that there was left.

Recommendation – ignore and avoid.
