I’ve read a lot of reviews, comments, and opinions about this film before I went to see it. I knew already that the story was the same as the original film, that hte first hour or so will be pretty boring, that there will be an excellent fight between King Kong and a few dinosours, and, of course, that the film was directed by Peter Jackson.
And it was this last bit that got me all excited the film. And it was exactly the same bit that made me confident in the experience that I will get.
And I got it. The film was excellent. It was, in fact, slow and boring in few places. But there was always something pleasant for the eyes and, also, there were a lot of those moments that are good enough for the whole film on their own. Like the already mentioned fight between King Kong and dinasours – it was in fact so good, that it was worth watching the rest of the film.
Why 8 and not 9 or 10? Well, as I said, there are strong sides of the film and there are weak sides of the film. There were a lot of strong sides, but there weren’t just enough of them to make it into a perfect feature.
Character development could have used some more work. The melodramatic crap was reasonably places – as in the original – but it sucked. Badly.
Music was very good at some places, and very … well … noticable at others. Acting was good by some and non existant by the others.
Overwall though I had an excellent exprience. I don’t have any regrets about watching this film in the cinema, and, in fact I suggest that all of you do so too. Home television and/or theatre just won’t do it properly…
