Last Friday I went to see a much anticipated movie – “Iron Man 2“. I really enjoyed the first “Iron Man” and the trailer for “Iron Man 2” looked really promising.
The film left me with mixed feelings. On one hand – there was plenty of action and fantastic cast. On the other – this part is much dumber than the first one and the ending is horrible. Sorry, not the ending, but the epic battle between good and evil, the part of the film where the villain is defeated. That sucked really bad. The good thing though that it’s a small part of the film and it only happens towards the end, so there is plenty of time to enjoy the visual effects and such.
I still think that the first part was way better, but this one does count for a good Friday evening entertainment. See it on the big screen, if you are planning to watch it at all. I’ll rate it as a weak 4 out of 5. It barely made it.
The trailer for “The Spirit” was really nice and I wanted to see the movie. However, when I checked IMDB page and saw the 5.something rating, I got worried. There are many examples when my personal rating differs a lot from the IMDB one, but 5.something is always a cautious sign.
And since there wasn’t much else to see, I still went for it. Unfortunately, this time IMDB was quite right. The film feels like a leftover from “Sin City”. There is nothing original about it. Nothing much to enjoy. And, honestly, nothing much to see in it. Most of the time is spent in silly dialogues and monologues. And these are so silly that they actually harm the good acting that could have been done.
The only scene to remember is the one with Samuel Jackson dressed as a German nazi, and Scarlett Johansson helping him out. Everything is else is boring, overdone, and unoriginal.
3 stars it is.
Late television features many nice movies recently. I wonder why. And for how long they will keep it up. Today one of my favourite crime movies of all times was PIK2 – “True Romance“.

I wasn’t very eager to watch “xXx: State of the Union“. I am trying to be careful with sequels to good movies. Especially those that don’t feature the original character anymore. You can even say that I was avoiding this movie until today. With its IMDB rating of 3.9 is not surprising…
Directed by: Lee Tamahori
Genres: Action, Crime, Adventure, Thriller

Just watched “Basic” on DVD. This movie anything, but basic. I think that I’ll have to watch it like another five times to get all facts together and understand the thing completely. Or maybe just once will do with some sleep hours beforehand.
Remember me recently complaining about more than half of the films that I watch having a simple story? Well, this film is surely an exception from that. Storyline changes several times during the course of the film. And just when I started to think that it’s getting pretty close to the end and that there were plenty of story changes already, and that this is the final one – ***BOOM*** – and it changed again. And repeat. 3 times. All of these changes are further confused by a pretty fast pace of the movie and a short duration (just one and a half hours for all of them).
There were many familiar actors here, but nothing particularly remarkable about the acting. John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Connie Nielsen and others all did a good job, but I don’t see any awards rushing this direction.
Overall a good film with a good bit of entertainment. It could use some action and light over the jungle scenes, but these are pretty standard complains about any “U.S. Marine” movie.
4 out of 5.
