Up

Up

Last weekend we had our first whole family trip to the cinema – Olga, Maxim, and myself.  The choice of the moving picture was simple – “Up“, the only family friendly movie in the cinema right now.  Plus we all love animated films.  Plus I’ve heard quite a few good words about this one.

The animation was excellent, as always from Pixar.  But the story and the characters, I think, needed more work.  There were a few funny scenes, a few quite serious and sad ones.  It wasn’t just for the kids, but for the whole family.

Overall, while enjoyable, the film lacks something.  Either a crazy creature running around and getting into silly situations (even though there was a candidate), or a character with a funny voice (even though there was a candidate), or something completely different.

3 stars.

The One

Jet Li is almost a guarantee of a good action movie with lots of martial arts. Not yet, but he is surely getting there. I rented “The One“, because I was too lazy to look for something else and I agreed to watch a Jet Li movie.

Get Shorty (1995)Since I saw “Be Cool“, which was a sequal, I wanted to see “Get Shorty“. Both movies can be seen separately as they are not connected by the story in any way. Only by the characters.

Ransom

Watched “Ransom” on TV. I have seen it before, but since I didn’t have a blog back then, I decided to mention it now.

This is one of those films that you really enjoy watching, but that you don’t want to own or can never remember later. The story is nice, but it’s a one-time flick. There is some good acting from people who usually deliver good acting – Mel Gibson, Rene Russo, Gary Sinise, Delroy Lindo.

Overall, I’ll give it a 7 out of 10 and recommend you to see it. But if you think you did, then you should better go for something else.

Gone in Sixty Seconds

Gone in Sixty Seconds” was on TV. I had to leave before the end to go to work, but I remember it pretty well from the time when I saw it in the cinema.

It’s a nice crime and action film, which lacks crime and action. It’s a film about great cars and their steallers, but there are not so many car chases and exciting driving. Pity.

Many famous people play in there – Nicolas Cage, Angelina Jolie, Delroy Lindo, Robert Duvall,Vinnie Jones and few others. All this film lacks is some action and spice in the dialogs. Even Cage stayed away from his usual dramatic senbernar look (also known as Silvester Stallone look). It’s a pity when so little separates an averagely good film from a category killer.

6/10.
