Tip for Mozilla Firefox and the middle button

While Firefox suits me pretty good, it has a couple of issues that annoy a great deal out of me. The first one doesn’t happen all that often, but when it does, it annoys the big Jz out of me. The click with the middle mouse button anywhere on the page, except for the link. Usually, I use the middle button to open the link in a new tab. But if I miss the link, then Firefox uses whatever text was in the buffer as a new link for the current tab. I really hate that one, you know.

Today I accidentally discovered a fix. Simple, as usual. Navigate your browser to about:config and make sure that middlemouse.contentLoadURL is set to false. Tada! All done.

  1. Hey nice tip.

This is a bit off topic but I was wondering how can I upgrade my firefox to the 1.5 in my fedora 4 box (now that I am in CY). I’ve read the tutorials but they only say how to install it a second time not replace the existing one.

Any ideas would be helpfull. :)

  2. Can’t help you much. Sorry.

So far the reviews of Firefox 1.5 weren’t very positive. It seems slow, buggy and unstable. I’ve decided to wait for the next version (1.5.1?) or for the officially supported Fedora package.

If you will proceed with the upgrade, make sure to backup your profile directory. And if you will experience any glitches, try running Firefox with the fresh profile.

    Other than that – I don’t know anything…

  3. If this is the case I will wait for the official fedora supported version as well.

I thought I was doing something wrong.

On anoter note have you thought of comments subscriber wich notifies you of any new comments in a post via email? It’s great and in my opinion very usefull.

Cheers and thanks for the input.
